    Episode 5 – Discussion with Kathryn Lott, Southern Smoke

    Chris Shepherd launched Southern Smoke in 2015 after learning his friend and former sommelier Antonio Gianola was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Recognizing a need, the Southern Smoke Foundation created an Emergency Relief Fund for people in the food and beverage industry in crisis. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the Southern Smoke Emergency Relief Fund has distributed $4,463,990 to 2,244 people nationwide. To date, Southern Smoke has distributed more than $6.1 million—both directly to people in need via the Emergency Relief Fund and to organizations that represent the needs of people in our industry. CRTRA Vice President Wendy Hull talks with Kathryn Lott, Executive Director for Southern Smoke, about their origin, the unique help they provide, and how companies can utilize and support this important foundation supporting our industry's employees.

    CRTRA Vice President, Wendy Hull is joined by James H. Pogue II, PHD to discuss “Paving the way to Diversity & Inclusion”. Leadership and training are at the core of who Dr. Pogue is and drive is his commitment to equip executives and professionals with thought leadership to communicate & manage effectively. His military service, scope of research and work as a speaker and entrepreneur give him tangible examples of the critical balance between leaders and followers on teams.

    Wendy and Dr. Pogue discuss the importance of striving for a workplace of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Dr. Pogue shares his perspective on key learnings of 2020 and provides tips on how you can build a D&I culture within an organization.
